It’s a Wonderful Life in Watercolor | The Woolseys

We know it’s not Christmas time and we didn’t take pictures of anyone named George Bailey. But here at Pure 7 Studios we spent a family portrait session with the Woolsey family in Watercolor, FL. (Try saying that five times fast!) Looking back at their family portraits remind us why it’s a wonderful life. When things are wonderful we can’t keep it to ourselves.

He’s only three months old but we got to see some great personality from this little guy. Learning and seeing new things in the world for the first time. Watching him take it all in was priceless. Look at all of his different expressions below. Now just imagine what he’s thinking. How cool would it be if as adults we could remember our first thoughts. Perhaps we’d all show more appreciation for the little things.

Things like having a healthy and happy little one. It’s easy to forget how many couples face additional challenges and struggle to find ways for their child to grow up with the comforts today’s world can offer. Families come in all shapes and sizes and like George Bailey’s family, they come with a story. The Woolseys are writing the next chapter in theirs and since they smiled in awe the whole time, we think it’s going to be a good one.

It’s no secret we all face insecurities and struggles but there is much to be thankful for. Take our Pure7 Challenge and think of a few reasons why it truly is a wonderful life. Share one of them in the comments below or on social media with the #pure7challenge. Together we can make a wonderful life even better as we see the world through each other’s eyes.

Family Photo Tips | Burton Family

Have you ever had a friend or family member come try and take some family photos and felt awkward because you didn’t know how to pose or what to wear? Do you take countless photos with your phone but never take the time to get them printed or organized? It seems today with technology at all our finger tips photography isn’t as fun or meaningful as it can be. To try and “bring sexy back” to photography we put together a list of some of our family photo tips so you can get the most out of your family photos. Below are the Burton’s and their family beach portraits measured up against all our tips. You can look at them for examples.

Pick a Palette. Deciding what to where can always be VERY stressful when trying to dress a group. Everybody has their own ideas about what looks good. Your clothing is meant to enhance your look, not distract from it. Our best advice to accomplish that is to stick to three colors at the most. Then you’re coordinating and everyone can wear their own style. Along with liking what you’re wearing, picking something that flatters is key. If something doesn’t fit right, you won’t be comfortable and it will show. The Burton’s picked blue, white, and a red/coral color. Everything goes great together so your eye isn’t distracted by something that feels out of place or mismatched.

Bend the Body. In life we are constantly moving around. Bending our knees to run, sit, or jump. We bend our arms to wave at someone, eat, text, and work. We turn our heads to get a different point of view whether we want to get the sun out of our eyes or get a better look at something far away. The point is, you need to be natural and bend the body when you take your photos. Don’t stand or sit stiff. In every single family portrait of the Burtons they have bend in the body. They look alive with natural movement. Notice the hand on the hip, sitting cross legged, an arm behind someone, and even holding hands.

Get Goofy. Here’s your chance to really showcase who you are. Feel free to make jokes, laugh, dance, and just be exactly who you are. We realize this is easier said than done, but look at any two photos where one group is sitting in a perfect pose with stiff smiles to the camera and the other is the first family photo in our collection below. None of the Burtons are looking at the camera and it almost looks like it could be a candid shot between actual shots. That’s the beauty of getting goofy. We’d rather look at the Burton’s any day because their photo tells a story as each person is expressing part of their personality.

Hire a Professional. This is probably the best tip we can give you about family photos. We hear over and over how people are taking all of their photos with their phone but doing nothing with them. They just sit on the phone or a hard drive waiting for someone to “get to it” so they can be organized, printed and put on display. On top of that, lighting, focus, framing, making sure everyone has fun and getting the shot is what we do. It makes for a stress free experience after which we offer you a variety of ways to make a keepsake you can display or share for years and years to come.

Hopefully these tips come in handy as you take your next trip or have a fun family day you want to remember. If you have any tips you’d like to add, please do so in the comments below.

Mother to Be + Baby |Watercolor Maternity Session

Here at Pure 7 Studios it’s always exciting to photograph a mother to be and her baby. It’s no secret that pregnancy (despite all its discomforts, surprises and sicknesses) is a wonderful thing. New fears and excitement set in when you’re expecting. Whether it’s your first or a new addition, each and every pregnancy is different. Women and their families are evolving constantly as the world around us changes. Perhaps the only thing one can count on being the same pregnancy to pregnancy is getting the beautiful pregnancy glow.

Today’s world focuses a lot on beauty and the way we should look. Unfortunately it is often a skewed, narrow, and unattainable beauty not even actresses and models can live up to. Even though we all know this, it is still very easy as a woman to get caught up in what we see in the magazines. When we do get away from the media, we start comparing ourselves to our friends. It’s sad all talking beauty now has a negative affect on the way we view ourselves. That is unless you’re a stunning and very pregnant Prudence Lo.

We met Prudence in Watercolor just over a year ago to shoot a sunset maternity session. What a wonderful evening we had preserving a moment in time from when she was oh so happy for the baby adventure to begin. She carried herself with such confidence and it really shows in her maternity photos. While some hide their belly and try not to be seen or photographed pregnant, Prudence wanted to remember her pregnancy and honor her almost little one.  With no sway from the world’s negativity Prudence proudly posed so we could capture this special time in her life.

Rosemary Beach Summer| Burnley Family Photos

A Rosemary Beach summer is one of the best. Last summer when we met the Burnleys was no exception. Jennifer reached out to us wanting family beach portraits with an emphasis on the two kids. In the process of setting everything up we got to know her a little bit. One of the things we learned was her two favorite charity organizations: Orphan Care Network and Addi’s Faith Foundation.

Orphan Care Network came to be when a group of families in the Houston, Texas area came together to support and care for orphans. Many of the families got involved because of their desire to become foster or adoptive parents. If you or anyone you know might be interested in joining this growing community and their cause direct them to their website for information.

Addi’s Faith Foundation is a nonprofit organization on a mission to end childhood cancer. Named after Addi Faith Bender, who lost her life to cancer at only 1 year old. Go to the website to donate or see how else you can help.

We are grateful for the Burnleys and their interest in making the world a better place for kids. Thank you for sharing your family with us and for showing us a few ways we can help families in need. In their family photos below you’ll see the kids are two peas in a pod. Photo after photo they let us in look in on their  bond and love for one another. We’re so happy to have you as one of our #Pure7Familes.

Classic Beach Photos in Destin | Braswell Family

We had so much fun shooting the Braswell family in Destin this past year. They totally changed it up from what we normally see.  They traded in the traditional white and blue beach look for classic beach photos in black. (Yes, you read that right.) Black. The Braswell’s dared to go dark wearing black tops for their family beach photos. We must say, we’re pretty pleased with the results.

We love them for staying true to themselves and wearing what they felt comfortable in. While not just any old outfit will photograph well, being comfortable and confident in your appearance is huge. Lucky for us this darling family of four has taken their turn in front of our camera several times over. Year after year we get to check in, take some photos, and see how they boys have changed and grown. Having a history of  together just makes everything go a littler smoother. They know the drill and come ready to bring it.

Our relationship with the Braswells is truly special bond for us to have with a client here on the Emerald Coast. We’re a destination wedding and leisure vacation spot so we get to capture beautiful weddings and family beach trips for those who figured out we have the best beaches in the world.

Whether we get you once or a bunch, we cherish our time with each and every client. A warm and heartfelt thanks to Tara and her men in black for once again letting us preserve their family in photographs. We can hardly wait til we meet again.

First Family Beach Photos in Destin, FL | Bennett Family

It is said, “good things come to those who wait.” We’d like to think when it came to the Bennett’s first family beach photos we had a hand in making that come true. See,  a little over a year ago Amanda reached out to us wanting to do a professional photo shoot with her family because they’d never taken professional photos of their son. We set an appointment during their vacation to Miramar Beach here on the Emerald Coast and the rest is history.

When we finally got to meet the Bennetts for their session, we couldn’t wait to get started. Being the first portrait photographer to capture their child’s innocence and personality on camera just tickled us. We had a great time on the beach getting to know them and couldn’t be happier with the collection of family portraits we created for them.

One of the best parts of their beach portraits was the way they used the natural beauty of our unmatched beaches.  Instead of using the emerald green water behind them for every shot, we also used the natural vegetation and flowers making a perfect backdrop as we photographed fun family moments. Of course, it wouldn’t matter how beautiful the background was without a great family to work with.

The Bennett’s photos only turned out so great because of their willingness to be themselves in front of the camera. While some of the photos are of the family sitting posed, most of the day was spent getting great shots of them just interacting. They experienced a new first together as a family on the beach that day, and it was our pleasure to be with them preserving the memories they made. We feel so lucky to have met them and couldn’t be more proud they asked us to take their first professional family portrait.

Grandparent Portraits in Watercolor, FL |The Abneys

We are so excited to share the family beach photos we took of the Abney boys on their trip to Watercolor, FL. The main reason is because this was grandparent portraits session of Grandpa and his three grandsons. It’s not very often we get to spend an entire session shooting the special bond between these generations. Grandma even came and got in a few of the photos making it even more special for everyone.

Hopefully as these three boys grow up they will think back on this special trip and look at these photos appreciating the time they spent on our beautiful beaches with their Grandparents. They are definitely some of the lucky ones.

If you don’t have photos with your Grandparents it’s definitely something to consider doing. Even if you don’t  takes trips with them or want to use a family portrait photographer.  They would make a great father’s day present or addition to any family photo album.

Coalesce Session on Alys Beach |The Lam Family

Last summer Ryan and Alan went out to shoot a Coalesce Session with the Lam family during their vacation in Alys Beach.  This lively family of four was the sweetest treat to work with while our boys shot photos and video footage to create treasured heirlooms the Lam’s could cherish. If you’re not familiar with our Coalesce Session, that’s okay. It’s one of our favorite sessions, so we’re happy to talk about it pretty much anytime.

The biggest difference between our Coalesce Session and Portrait Session is the addition of our videographer.  With the Coalesce Session, the Lam’s received their pure7 family photos to “ooo and ahh” over for years to come. But they also received personal video footage edited into a 5-7 minute Cinematic Family Film.

Let us explain just how that works. In the Lam’s case, Ryan worked with them to get a family photo collection with both posed and candid shots. Throughout the session the family’s personalities came out which helps guide and inspire the photography session. Alongside Ryan,  Alan shot video getting all of the motion and sound of the day, which compliments the still photographs. He even interviewed the family members. Through those interviews you get an idea of everyone’s individuality and why they make such a great family. Since no two families are alike, no two family videos are alike either.

Please click play on the below video to enjoy their Family Film. When you’re finished, scroll down to view their Alys Beach family portraits.

Hopefully, you’ll see how well our family portrait photography and video compliment one another (and understand why we love shooting Coalesce Sessions so much).

Thanks again to the Lam family for a great time. Please don’t forget to pack us when you go to Paris!

Rosemary Beach Photos | The Abernathy Family

In the Rosemary Beach Photos we’re sharing with you today, we had the privilege of working with two of our favorite things. The Abernathy family and the absence of color. Despite regularly photographing beach weddings, we don’t really talk about white or how commanding it can be if worn in photos. (Perhaps it’s why brides wear white.) But when the below family beach photos of the Abernathys came out looking so chic, I knew we had to give credit to their white on white looks.

In case you don’t know, white is is an achromatic color which literally means  “color without color.” According to wikipedia white is one of the most common “colors” in nature. We didn’t doubt that for a second here in Florida. Just take a stroll along the Emerald Coast and you won’t either. The beaches really are made up of sugar-white sand. (But that’s a whole different story.)

As you scroll through the family photos below, we hope you notice how the bright white of their clothing really compliments and sets the tone of the photos allowing contrast with the more colorful back drops. We won’t say white is the only way to go but it sure did work for the Abernathys.

What do you think? Would you wear white on white?

Santa Rosa Beach Family Portraits | Chiffoleau Family

People have been taking pictures ever since the first camera was invented in 1840. Interest in photography has consistently grown and now many people (the Pure7 Studios family included) have full fledged businesses all because of that very first camera. The invention of that camera and the art of photography have changed the world and will continue to forever.

History is being recorded through visuals. Newspapers and Magazines all looking for the perfect cover shot. We’ve seen photos become iconic as they are shared across the world. Time Magazine even did an article called The Best of Life  showcasing decades of their best photographs. Just like publications strive to find “the shot” we work hard to tell the story in front of us capturing photos that will make a keepsake for our Pure7 Families.

After spending some time with the Chiffoleau family shooting their Santa Rosa Beach Family Portraits we were really excited to get back to the studio and see what the work looked like. Which moments of theirs did we preserve and could one of them be their iconic family photo.

As you scroll through their beautiful collection of photos you’ll get to a black and white photo of the whole family. Everything about it screams iconic to us. Timeless. It’s a genuine moment filled with emotion so perfectly expressing their love for one another.

We couldn’t be more proud or humbled to be the photographers preserving the personal histories of our Pure7 families and couples.
