Seagrove Wedding Photographers |Kimberly + Clain

We loved Kimberly’s initial inquiry into our wedding photography & videography services (which was, to be exact: “Hi, I have heard GREAT things about you and would love more information about everything you do and offer.”).  Needless to say, she had us at hello! Upon speaking to Ryan, Erica and Lindsey over the phone in the coming weeks, we all knew she was meant to be a #Pure7Bride. We had the pleasure of having Kimberly and her sweet mother, Lawana, to our studio shortly thereafter and were so excited when they officially chose Ryan & Lindsey as their wedding photographers, and Alan as their wedding videographer. Kimberly & Clain’s April 26, 2014 wedding was nothing shy of beautiful. They got ready for the wedding in WaterSound, and then proceeded to Seagrove Beach for the ceremony & reception (which took place at a private residence right outside Seaside, FL).  With such a fabulous vendor team, this wedding was one for the books and actually was . . . as it was featured in the 2014 Wedding Issue of VIE Magazine (see pages 188 – 190). We’re currently working on their stunning flush mount bridal album and can’t wait for them to see it.  Enjoy the beautiful images and wedding video of their seaside Santa Rosa Beach wedding below!

Kaylor Family | 30A Beach Photographers

I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Julia when she called in early June to inquire about our 30a family portrait options and the possibility of us photographing her family during their upcoming vacation.  Their family experienced some huge milestones this year, and we were honored to have the opportunity to document this very special time in their lives.  As grandmother, Julia, put it: “This family vacation was filled with celebrations.  We celebrate Rachel’s remission from leukemia and her big brother, Tyler, becomes a teenager.  The quality of the pictures captured our shared happiness in this beautiful environment and become permanent memories.”  Ryan photographed their beach session right where they were staying (on the gorgeous stretch of fabulous 30A beaches), and we just loved capturing the affection between these two adorable siblings.  Lindsey had the pleasure of hosting their proofing & purchasing appointment in their beach house and we’re almost finished with their heirloom products, which included a canvas, wall portrait, and two albums.  We are so excited for them to receive them!  Thank you, Kaylor family, for choosing and allowing Pure7 to be part of such a momentous time in your family.  ~Erica

Senior Session in Destin | Taylor Hanna

As Taylor and her family were planning their summer vacation to our Emerald Coast, Taylor knew she wanted to have her senior pictures taken by a professional photographer on the beach while here. We locals often take for granted just how special and unique Destin’s natural features are. Sugar white sandy beaches, sea oats, dunes, and gorgeous turquoise sparkling water . . . all of which lend themselves beautifully to an awesome family portrait or senior session. Taylor and Erica connected via email first, and we were so humbled when Taylor stated:
“I knew I wanted my senior photos in Florida while on vacation so I Googled tons of photographers and I came across your page and I LOVED your work the most and thought you guys would be the best pick for me and my style. I just loved your work, its amazing and fits my personality best!”
We can’t ask for a better compliment than that and emails like those are what keep us passionate about what we do! While we typically shoot more family beach portraits and weddings, we do offer senior portraits by request and were so happy that Taylor had found our senior sessions online and connected with them so deeply. She and Ryan (and also Taylor’s mom) were able to speak on the phone several times in the days leading up to the portrait session, and collaboratively came up with a location to suit the look Taylor wanted to acived with her senior portraits. What resulted was a super fun, relaxed, two hour beach session in Destin. Taylor and her mom, Donna, came to our studio for their proofing & purchasing appointment the next day and we were so happy that they loved her images as much as we loved creating them. We’re currently finishing up on their custom-designed 10×10 Coffee Table Book and 24×30 Wall Canvas, and can’t wait to hear their reactions upon receive their heirloom products in a few weeks. Thank you, Taylor & Donna, for choosing Pure7 to document such an important time in Taylor’s life. We’ve throughly enjoyed getting to know you both, and look forward to the opportunity to photograph your family again during future vacations.   ~ Erica

Take a look and let us know what you think . . . their Second Line Parade at the end of the evening was one of the best things we’ve ever experienced.  Nola rocks!

Fuji XT-1 Review

I fell in love with the Fuji XT-1 after playing with it at a workshop I attended in April. It was extraordinarily difficult to find at first, as everywhere I looked it was on back order, but at last I was able to obtain the camera & kit lens. I think the lens this body is shipped with is capable of breaking down prior notions that kit lenses perform less than desirable. My eye was on the 23mm 1.4, as 35mm is a comfortable focal length for me, although the 18-55mm 2.8-4 I received is a nice piece of glass. Upon seeing the package had shipped I nearly squealed like a school girl. A piece of gear hasn’t had me this excited in a long time.

Examining the images after my first shots revealed the images from the 23mm 1.4 are sharp and clean. To my surprise the camera produces beautiful colors similar to the Fuji film I’ve grown to love, and handles shooting in undesirable and harsh lighting conditions. As opposed to traditional Nikon or Canon viewfinder, the EVF (electronic-view-finder) system will blow your mind and is one of my favorite features. If you have big hands like I it may take sometime to grow familiar with the positioning of the button and dials. If you can look beyond its similarity in appearance to a point-n-shoot, the compact size provides more benefit than setback. It’s a relief to have a compact camera capable of producing images similar to a full-frame body, as shooting 7+ hours on larger bodies and lenses definitely takes a toll physically on ones body.  ~Ryan

Michael & Jordan (Rosemary Beach Wedding Highlights)

Michael & Jordan’s wedding ceremony & reception took place at the Eastern Green in Rosemary Beach, FL.  This was such a fun video to create given the awesome personalities found in both wedding parties.  You can really see the fun both were sharing in their Rosemary Beach Wedding film, which made it a blast to capture for us as filmmakers.  We came equipped to shoot the day with a mixture of both Mark II’s and Mark III’s and set off using only Manfrotto fluid monopods.  It was extremely helpful to have a large space that was well lit, in which the girls interacted with one another and were very dynamic in their movements & placements within the room.  It’s so common, and very unfortunate, when a bride is cooped up in a corner or surrounded by mirrors in a tightly knit bathroom or space.   The blocking of the bridesmaids allowed us to change positions and shoot their interactions including laughs, smiles, and expressions from different angles.  It was this that created for the fun whip-pans, or directed movements between the girls while in discussion.  If the filmmaker is capable of panning and hitting their ‘mark’ on the ending frame, it is said to be more impactful and helps progress the story than a traditional cut.  While sometimes we are more inspired by music, or pacing than story telling, we try our best to construct sequences with actions and re-actions, whether that be among the guests or tying together similar clips to create a greater meaning.  Essentially in this instance, the movement of the pan rather than an additional cut helps to prevent the viewer from consciously acknowledging they are watching a film.  I really enjoyed expressing my thoughts here on how impactful camera movement can be, and hope to do so again in the future!  Please enjoy Michael & Jordan’s highlights film as listed below.

Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach 2014 | 30a photographers

We were honored to have asked back as one of the photography + commercial video sponsors of the electrifying annual event held in Alys Beach and known as Digital Graffiti.
As stated on the DG website, “Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach is the world’s first projection art festival, with artists using the latest technologies to project their original works onto the town’s iconic white walls.  Sometimes referred to as “Photon Bombing,” “Guerilla Projection” or “Urban Projection,” underground artists around the globe have already been using the latest design, animation and projection technologies to cast dynamic images onto skyscrapers and other urban structures as a means of artistic expression. But Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach is the first outdoor festival specifically organized to celebrate and showcase these unique talents. “Our town literally becomes their blank canvas,” said Kelli Siler, Alys Beach’s Events Coordinator.”
Digital Graffiti 2014 was just as epic as was last year’s event.  There were returning artists from year prior, as well as new digital artists from all over the world.  Shantell Martin is my personal favorite.  She had an interactive canvas in which she would digitally draw on or around the subjects.  One of the new artists I was drawn to was Joseph Toney.  His piece was projected on one of the beautiful houses that lines scenic highway 30a.   Saturday night was a great conclusion to DG2014, with amazing music and live visuals set to music by the talented team at B-Boy Productions.  Jeff with Facetime Photobooth was back again, and that is always a treat.  DG is better and better with each year, and we’re look forward to what is to come for Digital Graffiti 2015.   ~Ryan

Semertsidis Family Portrait Session | Destin, FL Photographers

We’ve added a new family portrait session to the ‘Families’ gallery on our website.  Here are a few sneak peeks, but be sure to check out the full gallery, here!  The Semertsidis family were wonderful to work with, and their Destin portrait sessions is one of our favorites this year.  Anna had this to say of their experience:  “Our family reunion was so special and everyone agreed that working with Pure7 made it even more amazing!  They were able to capture beautiful moments with ease and brought out the best in all of us.  The Pure7 team is flexible, warm, and their sincere personalities made for a seamless photo shoot.  They will forever be our family event photographers!”  Thank you, Anna, for your kind words!  We would be honored to photograph your family during future vacations to our Emerald Coast!

Rice Family Beach Portraits | Destin, FL

Rice Family Beach Portraits: During the rainiest week in May we had a beautiful family from Kansas scheduled to come visit the beach and have some moments captured together.  The plan was to have some family portraits made while in Destin as a surprise for Mother’s Day.  What mother (seasoned or brand new) wouldn’t be thrilled with the idea of her family together for beach portraits?  We were particularly excited about meeting this family since, Julia (the sister with the super cool and funky pants) is friends with a bridesmaid from a wedding that we shot a couple of years back.  The highest compliment we can be paid is that of a referral from a previous client that is pleased and feels confident in our ability enough to send their loved ones to us.

Unfortunately, it decided to rain on the day that we originally had their shoot scheduled so we had to squeeze them in the day before they left to go back to Kansas.  This is one of the reasons why we suggest scheduling your family beach portraits session toward the beginning part of your stay so we are able to get you in with the instance of inclement weather.  Luckily both of our schedules permitted us to shoot with just enough time and they didn’t leave the beach without portraits!  With a little wind to keep us cool, the weather held out for us and crafted a perfectly pastel sky.
