paige & steve’s watercolor wedding. . .

paige and steve met us this summer to discuss their upcoming plans for an october wedding in watercolor.  after talking with them for only minutes we knew that we would be a great mutual fit.  photography was so important to paige and she and steve were such a carefree, friendly couple. . .we instantly hit it off.  when the big day came we were pretty excited to take part in the festivities for their Jewish/Catholic fused wedding and reception.  this was one of the most beautiful and unique wedding ceremonies i have ever witnessed.  the priest and rabbi have been officiating weddings together for the last 20 years and it was very evident as everything flowed with ease.  the couple wrote vows that were meaningful to them as well as citing some traditional vows.  the ceremony took place under a chuppah, which represents the home they have begun to share and build together.  once the ceremony concluded the couple signed the ketubah (a contract of mutually agreed upon responsibilities the couple will fulfill within the marriage).  it is one of the oldest Jewish traditions and is a covenant between two people who agree to be partners for life.  after the ceremony, guests were directed to the baithouse for cocktail hour and then to the boathouse pool deck for a strolling dinner reception.  after dinner was over, the dance floor was never empty. . .from the hora dance (chair dance), to breakdancing by the bride’s cousin, and then guests young and old broke into journey’s “don’t stop believing”!  paige and steve departed on the sailboat for their first nighttime stroll as husband and wife.  we are so glad we got to be a part of this celebration and look forward to seeing you guys soon!

sissy & uncle chad’s wedding. . .

you may remember the very special story of chad & danielle’s meeting and engagement on our blog earlier this year (click here if you missed it). danielle’s bridal session was also featured recently on our blog as well. chad is one of ryan’s best friends (our kids has always called him ‘uncle chad’ and danielle is ryan’s niece (our kids have always called her ‘sissy’ which is what her younger brothers call her), so needless to say this was a very special wedding to us (they all are, but you know what i mean…). danielle has forever been pimping us out to her girlfriends, so we just so happened to also previously shoot the weddings of 2 of her bridesmaids, gina and jennifer. so it was a huge coming together of not only family but a lot of special friends and cherished former clients as well! from the rehearsal dinner in the penthouse of the bahia, to the gorgeous ceremony on the grande lawn, to the elegant reception in the grande ballroom (all located within the village of baytowne wharf), this was one of the greatest weekends ever. our daughter and son (joslyn and gavin) were the flower girl and ring bearer, so that was really special as well. we are so thankful to have been able to not only share in, but photograph this amazing day. all of the awesome vendors really came together wonderfully to create the wedding danielle has always dreamed of. congrats, chad & sis… we love you!!!

a grande wedding…..

we first met with christyl & her mom over a year ago, i know it’s cliche but it really does seem like it was just yesterday. christyl is from good ‘ol andalusia, alabama & she is one of the biggest bama fans i know. the morning of her they were #1 in the country & by the start of her wedding they had lost to south carolina. but you know what? christyl did not let that bother her one bit. she had something way more important going on that day =) although she did make sure her & tom were back from their honeymoon in time for next weeks game. i want to say thank you to christyl’s mom donna for all of your hard work & planning.  congratulations tom & christyl….here’s to bama & the rest of the season     ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!

a bboy wedding!!

this is probably going to be the hardest post for me to write because i am a close friend of tara’s.  we both cheered for the fwbhs vikings (well, she actually cheered & i danced), we sank with a dying interior design business, and lived together for almost 2 years.  she is the reason i work for pure7.  she is one of the most genuine people i’ve ever known.  after she put that dress on and officially became a bride, it almost took my breath away.  she was so incredibly stunning.  as her dad was walking her down the aisle and brian saw her for the first time, i could tell by the look on his face that he was thinking the exact same thing.  they wed under a beautiful magnolia tree on the sound next to the house tara grew up in.  monark events transformed the backyard she once played in as a little girl to a romantic setting for the family style seated dinner, prepared by the eventful planner.  as brian is the president & founder of bboy productions, he is no stranger to the wedding business.  needless to say he took care of the music from start to finish.  two of his personal friends from the left coast entertained guests with melodic acoustic guitar, a heavenly voice during the ceremony and again at the reception with some karaoke-style performing.  the newest member of the bboy family performed during cocktails, a cooing guitar paired with soulful songs set the mood for the intimate dinner and dj dp finished the night off with a boom by serving up some dance tunes.  his cali background is such a big part of him he even had ryan come out to orange county to shoot their engagement session.  this is one of the most wonderful weddings i’ve ever been to.  i know you two have nothing but a lifetime of pure bliss in your future.  love you, tmurph & bboy too!  -lins

chasity LOVES jeff!

we first met with chasity & jeff this spring and instantly thought, ‘they are so much fun’!  they had a contagious energy about them (they both regularly work out so i think that may have something to do with it, ha).   we were so excited when they came back down to visit & let us take their engagement pictures (*see below).  the weather friday was being mysterious. . .not quite revealing what its intentions were for the day.  when i jokingly asked chasity if she was worried about the imaginary hurricane in the gulf she exclaimed without pause, ‘we’re getting married rain or shine so it doesn’t really matter what’s coming, we’re doing this!’  i love that response!  of course the clouds created a perfect backdrop & everything went off without a hitch.  the real action started after dinner was served and the dancing began.  the bride & groom each had a traditional ‘dollar dance’ to earn some moola from guests for the honeymoon. . .and after that the dance floor was never empty!  every single guest could have been seen on the dance floor at least once, dancing to everything from cajun tunes to the stanky leg.  it was a wedding filled with the same contagious energy we remembered in chasity & jeff.

the engagement. . .

i enjoyed these girls so much! it was nice to shoot something a little different on the beach. they were up for anything & did not want a “typical” beach look. it also doesn’t hurt  that the subjects were absolutely beautiful. when they came to the studio for their viewing appointment we had the chance to meet their mom, who is equally as fun and beautiful. thanks guys!!  =)

rise & shine!

the initial idea of a sunrise wedding somewhat frightened me.  i’m not much of an early riser so i was a little unsure of exactly what time this would even be taking place.  after a large cup of coffee, i couldn’t have been happier to be awake at such a beautiful time of day.  the morning was absolutely perfect and a nice change from the extreme heat with a slight chill to the air.  the ceremony & breakfast reception were aboard the solaris yacht at the sandestin marina.  the capt. was even gracious enough to move this small ship so that the sunrise would be favorably situated behind marie & steve as they said their vows.  there was such a relaxed & intimate feel to the cruise thanks to their 2 beautiful grandchildren.  as you can see they were a breezy joy to photograph.  steve & marie we enjoyed being a part of your ‘new beginning’!

the evolution of pure7….

where did pure7 begin? well it began as ryan manthey photography….actually it started as me taking photos of my first born, joslyn. i have always been intrigued by art & photography. in high school i would have never imagined being a photographer, at the time it was not “cool”. so, out of high school i worked with my family doing manual labor & driving a dump truck. i know, i know dump truck driver to photographer. . . quite a change! it was a sheer blessing working with my dad. he instilled good work ethic in me and come to find out taught me how to handle a business.  now fast forward to september 23, 2005. our daughter, joslyn, is born. one of the best days of my life! having her really re-birthed  my love/interest in photography. i believe it was that Christmas in ’05 that erica bought me my first dslr, the canon rebel with a kit lens (18-55 5.6). the photos that i took of joslyn were actually pretty good. our friends & family loved what they saw, they told their friends who had kids so i shot their family who told their friends and so on and so on. all these sessions were free. with us having a new baby and all we decided that maybe i should start charging for these sessions. i think the first one i charged like $75, not much, and i think that included the disc. this goes on for about a year. one day as i was driving dump truck for my dad i see a vehicle with a photographers name & logo. its was gina yra of yra photography. i felt something inside me & for whatever reason i wrote down her name on the jeans i was wearing that day. a week or so goes by and i finally called her. as it turns out she has a studio in destin, right down the road from where we live. me, erica & jos walk into the studio and immediately i knew i wanted to be a photographer. her studio was just amazing. i would go to her studio whenever i could, i wanted to soak everything in. gina really took me in and taught me so much valuable information, letting me shoot some in her studio of joslyn and some of her clients. i know she would disagree but i have her to thank for so much. thanks g, i love you & thank you for letting me hang out & for all you taught me.  in the meantime, another friend from church, lori saczynki, asked me if i wanted to second shoot a small beach wedding with her. although i was happy with the images i shot, i was very stressed out with the whole enormity of shooting such an important event. i came home that night and told erica that i would never shoot weddings again, only portraits. i continued shooting studio and outdoor family sessions until fall 2007 when gina convinced me to try again and second shoot a wedding with her.  once again i was freaked out & scared… not excited. the wedding came, we shot it and it was actually really fun. by january 2008 gina & formed pure7studios and were in business together shooting weddings. things changed & gina had to move to mississippi, and it became too hard to be in business together & have to travel back & forth for weddings. in 2009 we decided to split, she became contagious photography and i continued on as pure7studios. in 2008 gina & i booked & shot 8 weddings & in 2010 i booked & shot 30, using many great local photographers as my 2nd shooters. fast forward to present day, 2010. we now have a full time employee (lindsey) who is ever so fabulous! she is not only our studio manager but also my 2nd shooter for all of our upcoming weddings. i can not tell you how crazy this “journey” has been. there have been many ups & downs but i know without a shadow of a doubt that this is where i am meant to be! when erica & i came together as one & asked God to help us make one of the biggest decisions in our lives we listened and followed the path He set out for us.
