Senior Portrait Experience

For every high school senior, that final year is a whirlwind of emotions, old friendships, new experiences, tearful goodbyes, and exciting hellos. It’s about discovering who you are, where you’re going, and what you’re meant to do. No matter your experiences, this year is one you will remember for the rest of your life. What better way to trigger those wonderful memories than with your picture-perfect senior photos?

Personally, we have a blast photographing senior portraits. It’s a joy to connect with such amazing young adults and capture this exciting time, as well as their individual personalities. Of course, the process for capturing senior photos is relatively the same across the board, and sometimes senior pictures begin to look the same. We got to thinking…how can we make our senior portrait sessions even better?

Recently, we decided to try something new. We collaborated with Kim from Style by Kimberly to create a truly personalized and fun experience for our seniors, and it was such a big success that we cannot wait to do it again! This collaboration was a way for us to combine typical seniors photos with a personalized styling session to help seniors feel pampered, relaxed, and their most beautiful.

Kim was the perfect collaborator. As a wardrobe consultant, wife, carpool expert, and mom of two beautiful teenage girls, she is an expert on all things fashion. As her business is focused around “Shop Local First”, she is also intimately knowledgeable about local boutiques, jewelry artists, salons, clothing designers, and more in the 30A area.

For the seniors involved in our first collaboration shoot, this experience was two-fold. Kim set up our models with hair and make-up appointments and wardrobe fittings prior to the shoot, and we at Pure 7 Studios captured the magic of their personalities through their personalized styles. These girls had a great time, and we had so much fun working with them to find their unique styles and to capture it on camera.

So why choose this experience over a typical senior photo session? Besides being a uniquely awesome way to capture photos, it provides seniors with great memories of this exciting time in their lives. It allows them to feel pampered, comfortable, and relaxed…which results in even better photos! It also benefits moms, so they don’t have to worry about coordinating anything about the day. We set up hair, make-up, and personalized wardrobe fittings before the session begins so the days is planned and runs smoothly.

It’s important to note that we are representing senior portraits in a creative way, but in a way that is authentic to the individual. If the senior plays guitar, cheers, dances, or plays a sport, we want to reflect that in the photos. Together, we coordinate style and ensure the best lighting and most natural poses to create senior photos that pop. To create memories that will last a lifetime.

We are so excited to continue working with Kim to create such an awesome experience for seniors. Interested? Contact us here!

Family Photos for a Fellow Photographer

When you’re a photographer, most photos of your family don’t include you because you’re the one taking them! And as a photographer, it can be difficult to trust another photographer with your family portraits, so we were honored when Angie, a fellow photographer, booked us for her own family photos at one of our favorite locations for portraits, Grayton Beach State Park!

About the Syrowatka Family

Marcel came to the states in 2009 from Germany when the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals lead him to an internship in Atlanta, which turned into a management position in Vance, Alabama at BLG Logistics. He met Angie at a corporate photo shoot for Marcel’s company. They just happened to have mutual friends and Marcel admits that he had his eye on her.

Marcel and Angie brought along their darling children, Sunny (4 years old) and Stella (9 months old), as well as Siggy, also known as Oma – German for grandma! Sunny, perfectly named for her sunny disposition, has never met a stranger and has a great sense of humor. She’s also learning German faster than her mom! Stella is such a happy baby with a contagious laugh and has the most beautiful blue eyes! There’s clearly a lot of love within this family and it showed in their family photos!

Tips for a Fun Destin Vacation

This was their second trip to Destin as a family – first for Stella! – and their preferred beach of choice, but their favorite vacation as a family was in Sandestin.

  1. Favorite place to eat and favorite activity to do here?
“The Marina in Baytowne is our fave restaurant because of the fresh seafood and the harbor view. Fave activity is hanging out at the beach club and carting around Baytowne nearby the cottage we stay in.
We also really love spending time at the cottage that Angie’s client owns – such a sweet blessing for our family to gift us this stay when we visit.”
  2. What do you love most about coming here?
“Getting some beach time and making memories with the family – whether it’s building sand castles on the beach, shopping, or new experiences we can make into family traditions.”

“[We] wanted to document this trip with the best photographer we could find in Destin and I will have to say we found him. The photoshoot was a memory in itself and know we will have keepsakes to remember this forever!”

Family Portrait Session | McGuinness Clan

We had so much fun with this lively bunch at a recent family portrait beach session! When they met us at the studio a few days later to go through the photos, we seriously felt like our friends had come to hang out. The icing on the cake was the email we received later that afternoon:

“Thanks again for everything! We had so much fun shooting with Ryan and again today going through all the photos with you guys. Didn’t think I would cry but that’s how you know they’re good pics, right?”

Pure 7 Beach Family Portrait

We totally agreed! As we got to know them a little better, we understood why everyone was all smiles the entire week. A really big, wonderful thing was about to happen.

Senior Session in Santa Rosa Beach | Madeline Quarrier

Senior photos are a rite of passage. Not all kids fit the mold, though, and their senior session should capture who they actually are during this crazy, exciting season. So it was really a no-brainer when we planned this shoot because we happened to know this girl personally, and she’s definitely got her own style. It was an easy choice to skip the beach and wander down some side streets and back roads with a film camera added to our usual arsenal of digitals.

Madeline’s images are breathtaking and everything she had to say about life at this age reminded us of ourselves not that long ago (except our senior session pics were never this cool – trust us).

Beach Portrait Session | Jones Family

What do you do when the kids are scattered about the country and mom has a milestone birthday coming up? Gather everyone and convene in the spot where the family has vacationed for 40+ years, of course. Oh, and place a special order for absolutely perfect weather because, well, it’s for mom.
A regular on a plethora of top beach destination lists, this beach portrait session proved why the Destin area was the perfect choice for this boisterous family’s celebration.

we were fortunate enough to have the bulgarella’s purchase our milestones collection, which means we get to see and photograph them regularly.  we met leslie and bob at church (the greatest church ever!), and are so glad they have become our clients and friends! they own the awesome restaurant bistro bijoux in baytowne wharf which if you haven’t tried…  you should! here are some images from the newborn, 3 month, and 6 month sessions after the birth of their 2nd child, baby asher. he is getting SO big (and SO stinking cute), and we were excited to have his proud,  big sister join him during the last session. we are looking forward to the rest of our shoots with this awesome family!

Santa Rosa Beach Family Photos |The Whyte Family

It’s not everyday we get a call from California asking about our pricing and packages for family beach photos. In fact, it’s probably one of the most rare calls we’ve had. None the less, last summer the phone rang and we had the opportunity to shoot Santa Rosa Beach Family Photos for the Whyte family.

This was a fun and special shoot for us for a few reasons. First,  we got to share our sugar white sandy beaches with some Californians. This may seem like no big deal to those of you locals out there because you’re spoiled with our beaches in Destin and 30A. But for those not used to seeing it, it’s always a treat to see the awe in someone’s eyes as they take in all the beauty our little corner of the world has to offer. To make the shoot ever better, one of the boys was graduating from a program in the Navy. It’s the real reason they all came together to celebrate and let us document their special time together.

It’s hard to pick a favorite in the collection below but if we had to choose, their family beach photo of everyone sitting in the sand would probably be it. The colors they’re wearing match perfectly with the skyline and the water.  Of course the black and white family photos in front of the fence show so much texture we can’t exactly rule them out.

Classic Beach Photos in Destin | Braswell Family

We had so much fun shooting the Braswell family in Destin this past year. They totally changed it up from what we normally see.  They traded in the traditional white and blue beach look for classic beach photos in black. (Yes, you read that right.) Black. The Braswell’s dared to go dark wearing black tops for their family beach photos. We must say, we’re pretty pleased with the results.

We love them for staying true to themselves and wearing what they felt comfortable in. While not just any old outfit will photograph well, being comfortable and confident in your appearance is huge. Lucky for us this darling family of four has taken their turn in front of our camera several times over. Year after year we get to check in, take some photos, and see how they boys have changed and grown. Having a history of  together just makes everything go a littler smoother. They know the drill and come ready to bring it.

Our relationship with the Braswells is truly special bond for us to have with a client here on the Emerald Coast. We’re a destination wedding and leisure vacation spot so we get to capture beautiful weddings and family beach trips for those who figured out we have the best beaches in the world.

Whether we get you once or a bunch, we cherish our time with each and every client. A warm and heartfelt thanks to Tara and her men in black for once again letting us preserve their family in photographs. We can hardly wait til we meet again.

First Family Beach Photos in Destin, FL | Bennett Family

It is said, “good things come to those who wait.” We’d like to think when it came to the Bennett’s first family beach photos we had a hand in making that come true. See,  a little over a year ago Amanda reached out to us wanting to do a professional photo shoot with her family because they’d never taken professional photos of their son. We set an appointment during their vacation to Miramar Beach here on the Emerald Coast and the rest is history.

When we finally got to meet the Bennetts for their session, we couldn’t wait to get started. Being the first portrait photographer to capture their child’s innocence and personality on camera just tickled us. We had a great time on the beach getting to know them and couldn’t be happier with the collection of family portraits we created for them.

One of the best parts of their beach portraits was the way they used the natural beauty of our unmatched beaches.  Instead of using the emerald green water behind them for every shot, we also used the natural vegetation and flowers making a perfect backdrop as we photographed fun family moments. Of course, it wouldn’t matter how beautiful the background was without a great family to work with.

The Bennett’s photos only turned out so great because of their willingness to be themselves in front of the camera. While some of the photos are of the family sitting posed, most of the day was spent getting great shots of them just interacting. They experienced a new first together as a family on the beach that day, and it was our pleasure to be with them preserving the memories they made. We feel so lucky to have met them and couldn’t be more proud they asked us to take their first professional family portrait.

Santa Rosa Beach Maternity Photography | Crystal

For those of us who live and vacation on the Emerald Coast, there’s no debating we have the most beautiful beaches in the world. Magazines and websites have listed us in their Top 10s over and over. Most would probably go as far as saying there isn’t anything you could do to make them even more beautiful. We know better than that at Pure7 Studios. We’ve shot too many beach weddings to ignore how much better the beach is when you fill it with people celebrating their love of one another. Some of our latest maternity photography is another worthy example of just how beautiful the beach really can be.

Crystal and her husband met us in Santa Rosa Beach, FL to get some of their first “family of three” photos. Her romantic style was present in every photo.  The pinks and floral designs coordinated without being too ‘matchy’, and nothing about what they wore is common or cliché. From outfit to outfit, as we went to each location, everything just flowed seamlessly. Maybe it’s just us, but looking through their maternity photos is sweet and calming – much like a mother’s voice singing her baby a lullaby.

Of course, seeing how much love they already have for their little one really is the best part of doing maternity sessions. There’s no doubt in our minds this Pure7 Couple will be great parents. They have style, love and the Lord on their side. They even personalized their shoot displaying a scripture in some of the photos.

Maybe you didn’t notice that Mom wore pink and dad wore blue either way, we’re not telling! Any guesses on if they’re expecting a boy or a girl?

Leave a comment below, #teampink or #teamblue!

We recently photographed their newborn session at the gorgeous Springdale Estate in Andalusia so stayed tuned to our blog to find out!
